The article said exactly that.
Where's the quote, Craig? You know I don't buy your proclamations. Show me the
quote.
No Bert. MVPDs offer multiple channels of video, typically in a bundle
like the extended basic bundle.
Show me any pair of OTT sites that offers virtually identical what you call
"the bundle," Craig. Including any OTT site that you politically like to call
VMVPD. They do not. Because it's a completely different model from the old
school MVPD, limited by the technology of 40 years ago. OTT sites cannot wall
people in. They use neutral ISPs.
HBO went direct to compete with Netflix.
And ESPN is considering doing this direct to consumer for the same reason. You
seem to think that sports must fit a totally different mindset. You'd be wrong.
People became aware of OTT sites, and liked the idea. Sports addicts are more
addicted than movie addicts, so it took them longer branch out. They stuck with
the old monopoly pipe. But eventually, ESPN subscriptions also began to erode
too fast for comfort.
You are easily satisfied, and do not understand the fundamental
economics of their business.
And yet, I was predicting that HBO and ESPN, and others, would be going OTT
direct to consumer well before this happened, and you were swearing up and down
that it would never happen. Remember? The old model is "too lucrative," you
said. How is it that you keep getting these things wrong, Craig, while claiming
that others don't understand the economics?
Did you not JUST recite me the old platitude about ESPN being "the glue"?
Amazing.
Bert
