asked after we left, did 1 look like a Tundra swan? Caleb and Courtney
confess we were lazy and didn’t confirm all 3 : we only looked at 2 of them
seen well to be Trumpeter, and because others have been logging 3, we did
too. — We spent almost all of our time here down on the driveway where
Prius got stuck in wet soggy grass between gravel drive and marsh, waiting
70-min. for tow truck ... We hadn’t known how to access the pin point
others had logged, so we drove down that driveway — mistake, can’t see the
swans anyway, and got stuck ... : rather see them from Hwy overlook just
east of driveway."

mostly female-looking plumage. Back portion of head feathers very stringy
or wispy (much more then a Common female), bill long and very thin from
front to base (more so than Common). No sharp contrast between throat and
breast as with female Common. Have seen this species many time before,
including in the Rogue Valley."

- Comments: "(Rare): “unreported”: “we confess we can’t rule out
Gray-tailed, which is possible at this date”: our view was after sunset so
almost no light left : rock piper on sand edge of rocks where all other
rockpipers working collected on Jetty rocks at beach ocean edge , this one
was larger (perfect size for Tattler) with long bill , longer bill than
other rock pipers : bird grayish above, whiter below : NOT a yellowlegs.
Perfect size and silhouette gizz for Tattler, we both agree . “Considering
the rarity of Gray tailed Tattler, it’s prob more scientifically useful to
report it as a Wandering.” & we will try to look again tomorrow, since
Courtney still needs Rock SA for 2019 anyway :-)"

- Comments: "A medium-large sized Loon in basic plumage. This individual
had a smooth line running down each side of its neck, separating a medium
to dark gray hind neck from a white fore neck. There was a semblance of a
grey chinstrap. The bill appeared slightly smaller than on a Common Loon.
The head shape was a bit rounder than a COLO as well. I got to study it
well twice before it dove. I was not able to relocate it after this,
despite a fair amount of searching."

direct size comparison, but seemingly smaller than AMRO, slender overall
with proportionately long tail and small head, short bill. Brownish gray
overall coloration with prominent white full eye-ring and buffy wingbar(s)
and patch base of pp. Flew off to W.
About 10 minutes later and to the E (presuamably) same bird re-found in
loose association with WEBL and CEDW in top of mistletoe-laden oaks. This
time views in perfect light from 60 feet, brief and mostly in flight.
Larger than both associating species. White outer tail feathers obvious in
flight, and broad buffy wingbar across wing (see from below). WEBLs didn't
seem to like the TOSO nearby."

- Comments: "(Rare) Photo. Following up on earlier record of 1, found at
least 7 female types and 1 male in southwest portion feeding together in an
overburdened crabapple.
As many as five seen on one branch. Some were flying in and out, and
otherwise hard to track in dense canopy. So possibly more.
All had strong face pattern (mask/eyebrow) rounded heads, thick streaking,
curved culmen. One male was purple wine colored in part. Many calls - short
'pik' notes."
