Fords Pond. Male was solid bright red. Female was nearby. Same size and
shape. Spatulate Bill like the male with a small light patch at the base,
unlike the faint crescent of a blue-winged teal female. Female was too
small to be a mallard or shoveler, and had a larger Bill than a
green-winged teal."

Snowmobilers shop near burn area. had a male fly-in to a lodgepole pine
giving its rattle call; all the classic features, black back,,barred flanks
and golden yellow on crown. bird appeared to enter a cavity high up on the
tree so perhaps a roosting location. The particular lodgepole was live
with a dying crown there was a cavity low on the trunk that appeared to
have been used in the past. There were two fresher looking cavities
two-thirds or so up the tree that were definitely fresher and appeared to
have been excavated this year.
Out of consideration for my friend i did not execute much of a search for
the ATTW pair reported from the area last week. :("
