Hi all,
To avoid hitting the refresh button on election results all day yesterday I
went out to Jefferson County for some birding. No major rarities but solid
birding all day under sunny skies and temps up to 70 degrees. Highlights:
The Cove Palisades SP- Crooked River Day Use Area
White-throated Sparrow- 1 foraging in parking area
Canyon Wren
Townsend's Solitaires- many singing
The Cove Palisades SP- Upper Deschutes Day Use Area
Varied Thrush calling
Redhead- 1
Ruddy Ducks
Pacific Wren- 1 in the brush behind the covered picnic area
Haystack Reservoir- West Shore Campground (the only area that is currently
open there)
Robins and Juncos having a major bath party at edge of lake
Common Loon- 1
Eared Grebes- 7-10
Peter Skene Ogden SP
Rock Wren- 1 on bridge
Lesser Goldfinch- 1-2 in brush by train bridge
Ferruginous Hawk- 1 soaring with a Red-tail
Madras Sewage Ponds (viewed from outside the fence)
Snow Goose- 1
Eurasian Wigeon- 1
Canvasback- 1
Ring-necked Ducks, Lesser Scaup, Green-winged Teal, Bufflehead, Am.
Wigeons, N Shovelers
Pelton Dam Overlook
Northern Pintails
Barrow's Goldeneyes
Gadwalls
Western Grebes
Last bird was a Golden Eagle soaring over Highway 26 when I was leaving
Pelton Dam.
Overall a great and distracting day with 58 Jefferson birds. All my
checklists are in eBird with a few photos.
