by Caleb! — too quick 3 ducks hid in beneath willows along shore so
couldn’t digibin photo. Extremely distinctive drake male ducks with large
palette of colors, drooping hairdo behind head, light blue in wings, among
many other confirming features. If necessary caleb can provide better

- Comments: "Continuing, with one poor very distant photo from ~ 400 meters
away. Note to others seeking this rare hawk: it can be very vocal at times,
which is quite helpful in locating it, but it also appears to be EXTREMELY
shy! It was the first bird I saw as I drove up to the site and was perched
in a tall tree at the bridge. Unfortunately, it flushed and flew downstream
before I'd even parked my car, and from there it kept flying further
downstream and occasionally emitting its loud "keeyuur! keeyuur!" calls."

butte with slow steady full beats; distinct reddish head "cap" with sharp
contrast to white breast/belly; underwings very light/bright/white with
dark tips; light upper & lower tail coverts contrasting to dark tail with
any detailed marking not noted; finer details not observed at 30-100m
distance without optics or camera at hand; seemed smallish/slight for
Buteo; flight & proportions seem quite unlike harrier. Not sure exactly
where this bird should be right now, but not around here — u/k if
overwintering is reported."

Gray-brown back, head and wings and tail darker. Breast and throat are
paler gray brown, belly and undertail tawny- peach color. Similar in size,
shape, and behavior to Black Phoebe, but clearly not one. First seen
chasing bug on Manning Road and then flew over to small corral on the
corner, southern face of Ward Butte"
