Even farther from Oregon, one of my strangest sightings during my childhood
was also a rail, in this case a Eurasian Moorhen at the bird feeder on my
parent's terrace in Muenster, Germany - a long ways from the nearest body
of water.

A few years ago, I had a surprise BLACK PHOEBE fly across Kings Blvd in
Corvallis near our apartment, a couple of blocks from Fred Meyer. I heard
it calling first, and it was so out of place that it took me a moment to
realize what I had heard - then I saw the bird fly.
That same neighborhood also yielded a very unexpected WRENTIT that was
singing outside our bedroom window, as well as a couple of snipe on our
lawn in the winter. You never know what you're gonna find!

Mine might be a Rock Wren in my kitchen in Arizona. It came in and out

Hi All,
With all of the wonderful rarities people have been reporting I was
wondering about reports people have of common birds in rare places. A month
or so ago someone mentioned a Wandering Tattler in a driveway in the
valley.
My own best is a White-Breasted Nuthatch in a flock of red-breasted
nuthatches at 5K+ feet in the high cascades of Douglas County in a
lodgepole pine forest.
Can anyone top mine? How about the tattler? Let me and others know!
