Sorry, but your professor needs to get a grip on reality. I've been using
Word since 1995 and anytime you have a huge file with lots of images and
fancy stuff...it's not only gonna surely become corrupt, eventually, but
you're wasting a ton of time opening/closing the doc and moving from page to
page. Chop it into sub docs and make your life a lot easier.

Well, yes. I was taught that as long as you had the hard drive space for a 
file, Word could handle it, at least that was what my professors said. Of 
course, that was before the age of gigantic hard drives. I didn't dream the 
size would cause a problem. That was when I split it into 4 volumes.
