Actually...I did this to myself just the other day. I was putting together a
manual prototype at the office and was using RAND. Someone asked me about
all the gibberish on the page and I attempted to show him how it
worked...and it wouldn't!! I was stumped cos' it was working all through the
page only a few mins ago. Looking like a dummy while fumbling around trying
to get it to work...I got frustrated and closed the doc and tried again.
Still wouldn't work. So I selected all the text and hit Ctrl/Shift/N to
convert it all to normal and tried again. It worked!?!?!?!?

Don't know what was up, but could only assume that I'd applied some funky
style to it and cause it to malfunction???

So my only suggestions here would be to try the Normal style and if that
doesn't work...try renaming normal.dot to normal.old and see if a new
version of normal fixes the problem.

Good luck!

Hi Beth. Does it work when you designate numbers of sentences and
paragraphs? Try typing =rand(10,4) and see if that does anything

If not, what version of Word is on the machine where it doesn't work? I
remember seeing *somewhere* where it didn't work, but I'll be danged if I
can remember the solution. I've tried checking and unchecking everything in
Word to see if I could make it NOT work and so far, I can't.

I bet Dian knows this one....but I haven't seen her posting much lately, so
I guess she's busy.

Dear Linda and Group,
I still can not get the =rand() to work - it works on all the other
computers except this one - it did before but something happened and I
don't know what and I can't get it to work. I looked at the autoformat and
it is on - don't know where to go from here. Any suggestions?
Thank you
Beth / ecarmona@xxxxxxx
