Dave said: >Everyone knows that the most succsessfull design was a black five, go anywhere and do anything,< I've been without a computer for 10 days. Black 5. Weekend before last, we went to York. Spent Saturday at the NRM. Of course, they've got the first Black 5 there. looked very nice, but I couldn't help remembering that the first series only had 1 inch thick frames and they agve a lot of trouble - later increased to 1-1/4 inch. And the steaming of the early Jubilees was to say the least, erratic. The GWR would have done better to have appointed Stanier rather than Collett, but that wasn't the way of things then.....Personally, I always like the look of the Horwich Crab, and Hughes L & Y 4-6-0 as rebuilt. The Manson 4-6-0s of the G&SW look very nice, too. And for our transatlantic cousins, the Pennsy K4 and and the SP 'Daylight' 4-8-4s. The Australian streamlined pacifics really look grand, too. Living near Swindon, I have to support the palce to so some extent, even though these days, it could well be improved with a 250kT thermonuclear weapon! ---------- Zarlink Semiconductor Limited is a Company registered in England and Wales under number 00705031 with its registered office at Cheney Manor, Swindon, Wilts SN2 2QW, England.
