It's just that in the 15 years of MIRA's existence no user had the idea to use brackets in the naming of the project … and neither had I. So this problem never appeared on my radar. Now that it has, a corresponding entry ("fix 'bracket' bug or give warning") magically appeared on my TODO yesterday night as I don't want to spend again 30 minutes chasing something like this.
