Jerry, Thanks for the image. I found a surface mount part that I 'thought' was a TO-252. I just discovered it was, in fact, a TO-263. It is looks very similar, but larger in scale by about 50%. Comparing that part to the PCB lands on the Arduino controller board obviously showed a mismatch. At the same time, I found an LM1117 in an SOT-223 package. This matched the lands much better, so I made an incorrectassumption. For this I apologize. Insomuch as the general SMD issue, I thought that I explained my reasoning already. But, yes I could drill seven holes, if necessary. What initiatedmy questions was Sandeep Lohia's post: > Today & tomorrow being holiday & vendor closed, > will finally visit factory on Monday 1st half (03-02-2014) > & I think we need not any further approval or changes. Right? > Friend Adrian, here each one of us have got unique taste depending > upon the availability of components locally, & we cannot satisfy all. > However we have gone with what majority of us suggested. Having just discovered the Minima FreeList only a few days earlier, I felt it was my only opportunity to ask, what I thought, were reasonable questions before the design was "cast in stone". I feel like I have only succeeded in stirring up a bit of a hornets nest. I'm truly sorry to have done so. I was only trying to help. 73, Mac AE5PH Thanks for the picture. Mac, I've attached a picture of the TO-252 for you. If you don't like using that package, the LM1117 also comes in the TO-220 package, for which you would have to drill three holes. The whole digital board can be built using through hole parts just by drilling 7 extra holes. Why would you ask someone to redesign a board when all you have to do is drill 7 more holes. The si570 is what it is and in the only package available. Jerry K5LRU -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [minima] Re: Minima PCB (eagle cad's) From: "Mac A. The LM1117 is a TO-252 package, east to get and easy to solder in place, easier than the si570. Jerry K5LRUAhh! TO-252 package. Just like on every motherboard I've seen for years now. Thanks for the info. I guess the pins are being bent and inserted into the holes in this application. Mac AE5PH
