Just a final post regarding my search for a scan-to-text solution, may be
useful to someone.
Firstly, none of the Online options worked for me.
Secondly, the Apps were expensive for my minimal requirements.
With the installation of Mavericks my simple Epsom printer became redundant and
I purchased an inexpensive Brother wireless printer/scanner. It cost less than
my previous epsom printer only, impressive what you now get for the price.
Exploring the bundled software which I had to download from the Brother site as
the included CD-ROm did not support Mavericks, there is a Control Centre from
which printing and scanning can be initiated. Fairly accessible but not totally.
Under the scanning options I am able to select several formats including .docx
which when opened in Pages showed me that it incorporated OCR of some sort.
I have scanned a page of text with excellent results and in Pages am able to
add to it just like a text document.
I have also scanned some postal documents such as Insurance notification and
Tax returns, of which I am also impressed with the information I have access to.
