The display should work fine. if the doc files aren't too fancy, you should
be able to read them in text edit.
Mail gives you all of what you want. the screen reader devellopers did a
good job on outlook express I agree but once you use mac mail for a while,
you'll never look back. If you would like, give us the details of your mail
settings and we'll try and help you.
