Donal: Instead, they eventually saw that the only
way forward was to allow the country to be taken
over by gangsters.
A Russian cab driver told me, with great
seriousness, that the collapse of the USSR was
simply a brilliant Soviet scheme to win the conflict.
So essentially, according to him, the USSR
downsized its holdings, spun off the Eastern Bloc,
and is waiting until its enormous resource
holdings make it more powerful than the West, at
which point it will re-emerge, re-acquire its
satellite states, and declare victory.
If it weren't for the way Putin has been acting,
this paranoid notion would be more laughable.
