Hang on a little longer, Rice Toys, I didn't mean to send that just then.

More generally than the vocabulary of any specific field, I find that I don't understand the vocabulary of masseurs / masseuses who speak in New Age terminonolgies such as: "squeezing out the bad memories that linger in the cells of the muscles." I don't know what the hell they're talking about. Maybe what they're saying is that "this rubbing will make you feel good." I think that's all they're saying, but I don't know. I don't care. Just make me feel good. Rub all those bad memories right out of me. Right now. Just do it. Who am I to say that muscle don't remember? I know what a hard time I have remembering anything lately, what with the years and the booze. But there's damn few things I want to remember. So what the hell? You dig? Or have I lapsed into my private language.

Memphis Mike

Rice Toys:

Gee. I thought we were talking about public language and public symbol systems. If we are also talking about private language, no contest. You got it babe.

Hang on, Rice Toys, I am talking about public language. Unless you consider the symbolizations of logicians to be private language, or mathematical symbols to be private language or electrical schematics to be private language or the vocabulary of metaphyscians to be private language or the vocabulary of any technical langugage to be a private language -- if you do, then I agree with you.

that is hardly adequate to explain the difference between a piece of nonsense like '$%q9 suit four'

Nonsense to you. To someone cognizant of the code, it might be the meaning of life. In other words, meaning means you know code.
