You talk about the Palestinians as if they were good while the Israelis are bad. But who attacked whom? Israel was attacked. And that makes the Palestinians the victims?

You need to do a little more reading about the Middle East. If you read as much about the Israeli / Palestinian conflict as you have about the pharmaceutical industry, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Israel gave back Gaza. As soon as they did, they were attacked. Giving back Gaza was interpreted as weakness. It wasn't. Do the Palestinians really want self-determination?

Or do they want to extinguish Israel?

It doesn't look like a desire for self-determination motivates them, does it? If it did, they'd be reaching out to Israel (or to other states in the area) for help in achieving their goals. They aren't.

There's a lot to criticize Israel for -- but not here. Israel is defending itself. And doing it with disproportionate force, it seems to me, is the only way to show Hamas and Hezbollah they mean business...they're not someone to trifle with.

I feel proud of Israel. I think they're doing a damned good job. I have no mixed feelings about Israel beating the shit out of Hezbollah -- Iran's proxy in the area. Hezbollah's been shooting at israel for years over the border. Israel's decided that enough is enough.

Certainly Lebanon knew what was going on. They were too weak to do anything about it. Now Israel is doing what's necessary.

Perhaps you can share articles that criticize Israel's attacks on Lebanon.
Surely you can find some. Not only do you never ever criticize Israel, you
even refuse to see what they're doing to the Palestinians, as if this
conflict sprang out of some sort of vacuum. You even call those who oppose
the war anti-semitic. How do you square those ideas?

I do share Articles that I find stimulating...and get in trouble because
it's often thought they represent my thinking. Since there are obvious
anti-semites on board this listserv, I'm not sharing anything critical of
Israel. I know Israel isn't perfect. Just as I know I'm not perfect. I
am.
I'm ready and willing to criticize its government, its policies, how it
interacts with Palestinians -- just as I'm ready and willing to criticize
the Bush administration.
