That seems odd, since the only US actions on the table right now are

There is a tremendous Westernizing force at work in Iran that is
terrifying for some. Nothing like creating a war environment to
emphasize who the enemy is and focus a population's attention on
something other than domestic woes. As in the U.S., political rhetoric
in Iran about the enemy is primarily intended for domestic audiences.

A.A. This is (seriously) quite perceptive. On the other hand, we are
threatening to use force inside their boundaries. The threat of missles on our
shores would galvanize us behind Bush too. I wonder that Bush doesn't get
this. Or maybe I don't wonder, since Bush, well, never mind.

Quite a number of years ago, mid-90's maybe, I heard an interview with an
author who said that the "Ayatollah Khomeni" revolution and era was over.
People were in fact westernizing to a large extent. I was therefore surprised
to learn in the 2000's that they are so autocratic/theocratic. It's curious
how a few can terrorize the many, as happened in Soviet Russia, China and other
places.
