Yes, that's something I learned- in order to bring a feature out at a particular height, you need at least one contour higher or lower- kinda obvious really, but you need to know about interpolation of course.
That wasn't the problem as the areas that were emerging as flat did have heights defined above and below. I'll be able to tell visually if the results are different or any better- before a blur that is.

The blur is done separately afterwards. Until I get a nonlinear interpolation option working, I leave blurring up to the user. There are different ways to blur and I don't want to impose a particular method on people.Carl: Flat areas... topmost and bottommost terraces remain flat since there is no interpolation reference.
