>>> Keith, I concur with the others who have suggested that your
"auto-focus" worked as they typically do. For instance, "in Daisy 2x", the
plane of focus appears to be on the music stand, as the letters on the
sheet are sharp and show no signs of camera shake. The same can be said of
some of the other shots; if you look at the items that are sharpest, they
are usually closest to the camera. Another case of interesting
compositions damaged by technology. ;-)<<<<<<<<

Hi Neil,
I don't think it has anything to do with technology at all. It has far more
to do with the photographer handling the auto-focus camera by not placing
the auto focus point on the correct part of the picture.

I've used Leica gear for half a century as a working photojournalist and I
always prided myself at being able to manual focus quickly from 15mm lens to
400 2.8 even when shooting sports at the Olympics. And I still do use Leica
gear.

However when I had an opportunity to use Canon gear for a couple of years in
the position I was working, I found out just how fast auto focus was fast.
And right on the mark every time I had the camera lens "hot spot" right on
what should be in focus.

Photographers using the, quite frankly, wonderful auto focus "technology"
and use it correctly have absolutely no reason to have out of focus images.
And those who whine about auto focus not as good as manual are wrong! They
just don't know how to handle the equipment properly.

It's like in the days of shooting down hill skiing and manual focus, you
might get 3 or 4 right on the mark in focus frames out of a 36 roll.

Auto focus, and it's getting better and faster all the time, came along. Now
you shoot 35 in focus frames out of 36. That of course doesn't mean they are
35 great photos, it just means they're sharply in focus.

In case you have a problem with my accolade on auto focus, please have a
look at a photographer who works probably 90% Canon auto focus.

I'm sure you'll be surprised at what auto focus can do when one knows how to
use the equipment properly.
