'Twas the end of a rather long day yesterday - brain went AWOL...

I was talking to a rather experienced digital photographer at work this morning, and his thought was that the polarising filter may be taking some 2 or 3 stops off the exposure, and allowing some camera shake; usually, shake gives a very distinctive result with this camera, so I don't know. I also got less sharp than usual results at about 100 mm, so I'll have to do some experimenting. Like I said, if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, they'd be very welcome.

G'Mornin' Keith!

Nearly every camera with TTL metering requires a circular polarizer, in order to maintain proper exposure. If you are using an older style, linear polarizer, that could make the two or three stops your friend indicated... though that seems a lot, to me... I would expect more in the 1 to 1.5 stop range.

First thought ... remove the filter and shoot some pix. See how they do.

Camera shake (if that's what it is) can be reduced by:

1) proper holding of the camera
2) firing just as your breath is finishing an exhale
3) use of a monopod. (The Gitzo G1560 Monotrek Aluminum Monopod w Ball Head is fairly low cost, incredibly light and easy to carry. It's what I'm using, these days for the Telyt 400 w/2x shots and it works very well.)

Other possibilities are that your cameras AF system needs "tweaking" by an expert or simply that your lens is in need of an overhaul. (Has it been dropped?)

Keep us posted.
