Aram,
You are right, the name of Live View seems a bit strange.
The reason I went to this SLR (er except for the Red dial, lens of quality)
is that I was fed up with holding a Canon Digicam at the end of arm, in the
sun.
The Digilux has not the best viewfinder but it is accurate, croppig 10
percent of the image evenly on all the side (this can not be said of the
Canon 400D).
It is quite usable even with googles as I have.
Now, I tend to think of the live view as a Pola Back facility, checking the
WB effect for instance.
The view shows grides and a histogram in real time. It could help a little.
The last time I used it was when mounting the Tamron Zoom lens to check with
a 4x the accuracy of the manual focus.
Chimping is a far better facility as you mention.
