Alicia, you may have Word 2003 on your system, but when you click on the
file, it is not Word that is opening, it is probably Wordpad as somebody
else mentioned.

There are several ways to make the files actually open in Word. For one,
from within Word, click open Ctrl-o. Now first, tab once, and arrow until
Files of Type says Al files. Now shift-tab twice and arrow, and assuming
youre in the folder where the documents are, they'll show up n the list and
you can open them in Word, and you will get the desited result.

If you want to do a variation on what you are now doing, instead of clicking
on the file, hit the application key and choose Send To, choice n from that
menu. Then most likely Word will appear as one of your send to destinations
and you can make the files open in Word that way.
