Hi everyone,
I began computer training at Baruch College for the Visually impaired
program, New York City, with LED 120 Braille computer and printer, Linkx,
and Braille link. Not sure if they are spelled correctly. It was archaic.
It was a teletype with no full screen editing.
Then in 1982, my company purchased an IBM 3270 full screen editing talking
mainframe computer. This machine was great. It had an external num pad key
that controlled speech. While doing mainframe programming I used this
machine which was hard wired like most other programmers' dumm computers.
When I did PC dos programming I used Vert, Vert Plus with a external
synthesizer. I used an Irma Board to emulate mainframe capabilities on PC.
Then I used emulation software so I could access mainframe from home when on
call. It worked but slow.
In 1996 I used JFW for windows, used emulation software, and external
synthesizer. I also had the IBM mainframe terminal which was the best
connection for mainframe programming. Eventually I mostly programmed on PC
and company migrated to People Soft, Oracle, and mainframe was no longer
used. I think my company just used the IBM CPU as a huge server for People
Soft applications. I moved and left company.
Believe me JFW has come a long way.
Ann
