That is because it was ETI eloquence 5.0, which window-eyes, uses. Yes, the old eloquence was very amusing, like a baby child with nashed teeth so had anger, haha.

Hi, my first screen reader was Hal for DOS back in 1995. I used the Apollo synthesizer as its external synthesizer, and it sounded just like today's Orphius does. In 1997 I used JAWS for Windows 3.2 running under Windows 95. This was the first time I heard what was then a tiring and almost monotonous sounding Eloquence. In 2000 I received a desktop PC running Windows Millennium Edition. This came with JAWS 3.7, which included the Eloquence that sounded similar to what is shipped with the current Window-Eyes. From then on I've been trying JAWS versions from 4.0 onwards, as demos.

Hello all,

Without getting off topic regarding Jaws, I'd be interested to know what
your first memories of screen readers are. Mine begin with Jaws 3.2 on an
old Gateway PC back in 1997. Good oal Doubletalk PC couldn't even handle the
Romance languages for heaven's sake!

Thanks,

Ben
