Hello Donna I am sorry I have know Ideas for you! I just started messing
around and it came back. I wish I could recreate what made it happen for me.

  Ryan,
I've been messing with them quite a lots, lately. That's why I want a quick
way to get to them.
But all my messing about hasn't made the icon appear in the system tray list
view. Any other ideas?

BTW, my name is Dana (D A N A), not Donna, even if you have to tell JAWS
dictionary manager that Dana=dayna, before it pronounces it correctly.)

  Blessed Be,

  Dana

    Hello Donna,

I am not sure why it is back but I now have volume. I did go into sounds
and audio and mess with some of the balance and up down sliders. Again not
sure why it is back but maybe you can mess around with some of the sliders and
it will appear, like magic.

      Adam,

As I indicated in my original message, I've done all of that, and done it
several times. If it had had the expected effect, I wouldn't have posted here,
asking if anyone knows why it hasn't. And, as Ryand indicated in his post, at
least one other person running XP Home seems to have had the same problem
appear only after installing the new JAWS 6.20. So, to repeat my original
question, does anyone here know what is going on with, apparently, the
interaction between XP Home, JAWS 6.20, and the volume Control icon, that is
preventing the latter from appearing in the system tray, or being read by JAWS
6.20, if, in fact, it is there but is not being seen by JAWS?

      Blessed Be,

      Dana

        Hi Dana,

        Try the following:

        Open your Control Panel,

Locate Sound and Audio Devices and open it,

Tab to the check box âPlace volume icon in the task barâ, and press
the space bar to check it.

Apply using Alt + a, and hit Enter for OK.

Close the Control Panel. Normally, the volume icon should appear in
your System Tray. Please let us know if detailed navigation is needed.

        Good luck!

        Adam

            Hello,

Not sure what the problem is, however I am experiencing the same
thing. I am running windows xp home and jfw 6.2. This problem just started.

On the Volume tab of the Sounds and Audio Devices dialogue of
Control Panel, I have the check box checked to show the Volume Control icon in
the system tray. But it does NOT appear in the system tray, even after I
reboot. Does anyone know what might be going on here -- whether this is a
Windows XP issues, a JAWS 6.20 issues, or what?

              Thanks.

              Blessed Be,
