And, to add to your comments, there is no such thing as bug-free software in the real world. So, while FS fixes most of the bugs in the software, they can't fix all of them. For example, many of the bugs that were in version 7 or 8, depending on who you talk to, they've fixed most of them in version 9. Now, version 10 is still in beta, so any bugs that one encounters should be reported via the beta form on the site. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gene" <gwilson@xxxxxxxx>

Jerry, I couldn't agree more. The tandem aspect of JAWS 10 will be of great benefit to JAWS technicians as well as others who are capable of helping many of us with JAWS related problems. It is not just FS who has the bug problems. In the few programming classesI took many years ago, it was always emphasized to create software even a "monkey could run" and to ensure that the software worked precisely as itshould before handing it in as a homework assignment. I mistakenly thoughtthat this also applied to the "real world". However, it seems that sincethe introduction of the "point-and-click" method of using computers and itsworldwide acceptance, the emphasis has been on getting the software to the public with no consideration for its reliability. Since Windows 3.11, how much bug fixing has had to be done after the introduction of each new operating system by Microsoft? Just a rhetorical question. And, how many bugs are supposed to be fixed as each new software package is sold to the public?I wish all software companies, FS notwithstanding, would take more pride inproducing applications that really work. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jerry Neufeld Sent: Tuesday, September 23, 2008 5:06 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: New FSCast Reveals Big News about JAWS 10From what I gather from the FsCast, the tandem feature is one of the better breakthroughs by FS in a long long time. Many people should profit from it.I do wish that those responsible for determining priorities for developmentcould worry about the many many bugs that get hidden beneath the need to compete and be commercially dramatic. How good it would be to know thatproblems with Microsoft programs along with many other popular applicationscould be resolved instead of continuously introducing new things that many of us look upon as expensive pretexts for SMAs.True, needs now transcend initial preoccupation with industrial concerns as already expressed on this list. However, important broken features of Jaws, existant as of version 7, remain untouched, all in the interest of packing new, dramatic aspects into the program. Why do I continue to think back toTed Henter and his concept of trying to make his application as bullet-proof as possible before moving onto new and more exciting things: the cost of JFWbeing a multi-million dollar endeavor. -- JFW related links: JFW homepage: http://www.freedomscientific.com/Scripting mailing list: http://lists.the-jdh.com/listinfo.cgi/scriptography-the-jdh.comJFW List instructions: To post a message to the list, send it to jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxTo unsubscribe from this mailing list, send a message to jfw-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.Archives located at: //www.freelists.org/archives/jfwIf you have any concerns about the list, post received from the list, or the way the list is being run, do not post them to the list.
