I thought that for the price you pay, that included the remote access as well so you could use remote desktop etc.

Hi,

just my two bucks worth, the new Tandum feature looks brilliant. I would love it if Freedomscientific could take this one step further though and make it available as a remote access tool. Being a support person, I owould love to be able to remote to sighted customer's machines to work on them in the same way as my colleagues do. This often just involves troubleshooting the OS or installing software etc. Even the basic narator functionality features would be enough in some cases in my opinion, without having to install video intercepts etc.

Thank you. Yes, that is exactly what I was doing. I think both iTunes support and the new feature are fantastic, as I said in different words before. :) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bruce Toews" <bruce@xxxxxxxx>

It's not about you, Joel. Mark was just making a point.

Hi Mark,

Did I say anything to disparage this new feature? I don't think so. I said I
don't use ITunes, and I think I said that I could see how this would be
great for those who do. Okay? I'm really glad about it. Honest. Just not an
ITunes kinda guy, myself. That wasn't a dismissal. No way. Thanks.

Well, yeah, but see, most of the rest of the universe is using iTunes as their media player of choice, and so any time we blind users have access to the same mainstream software is a major step forward, in my book. So that's
why everyone's making a big deal of the iTunes thing. The new Tandem
feature is going to be great for all users b/c I remember having an issue a couple years ago with a website and the JAWS cursor with onmouseover links. The tech support person had no problem and I was the one with the problem
that couldn't be duplicated. Now, if the Tandem feature had been there
then, things would have been sorted out. so this is definitely a major step
forward along those lines as well.

I just listened to the FSCast, too. I'm not an ITunes user, although I
certainly can appreciate the difference this scripting I think there's
some
built-in scripting in Jaws 10, anyway)and the MSAA on Apple's side will
make
with Jaws, because I once explored the site out of curiosity and realized that without buying the JTunes scripts, there wasn't a chance in the world that I could even familiarize myself with the site's layout and features.
So
that's great, for those who will use it.

But the feature they're making the big fuss about is this Tandem function
that will allow someone, for instance a Jaws tech support person, to
directly connect with a Jaws user's computer and actually operate it,
tweak
settings and scripts, and all sorts of helpful things. Just plain Jaws
users
will be able to also use the feature for free acting as the "controller"
to
help a Jaws-using friend if it's only occasional usage, or pay a quarterly or annual subscription fee. But for the user, the main advantage will be that when you call FS tech support, they can connect with you and do stuff on your own computer, and you can continue to operate from your side, as
well, if that's called for. The podcast explains very clearly how it
works.
In this case, of course, the Jaws customer doesn't have to pay any fee. FS
is paying on the support side, the "controller's" fee it's called.

I remember a few years ago I got frustrated about an FS tech support
person
not being able to duplicate a problem I was describing, in this case a
couple of bugs that he had a hard time understanding and couldn't
duplicate
on is own computer. I remember saying something like that audible.com had
something like this in place for years, and had often helped me with
difficult issues, so what was the big deal for FS? Of course there were reasonable-sounding answers about the complexity of a screen reader being involved or something, so I just let it go. But this ought to be really
nice
for some users, especially newer ones but not exclusively so.
