When I want to reveal codes I hit jaws key plus the letter F. I know there is a way to reveal such attributes as page numbering. What is this keystroke? Judith ----- Original Message ----- From: <jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Does the 'Reveal Formatting' option on the Format sub-menu do what you require? Just sometimes it would be nice to reveal all codes. So I'm glad you figured out something you can do that's satisfactory. And I don't know ho to position a cursor in a specific place on the screen in terms of coordinates. But as for revealing codes, here's a suggestion: open the Options. Alt T, O. This is a multiple-tab dialogue. control tab and stop at the View page of the dialogue. Now tab through the items, and you'll come to a number of options for revealing or hiding characters that may fulfilled your needs for revealing at leas some of the underlying codes. Check the appropriate boxes to toggle these items to the state you desire, and press OK to exit. Hope this helps. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda Yacks" <lyacks@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, January 12, 2008 3:52 PM Subject: RE: Ms Word 2003 question Thank you all. The reason I was looking for the answer to this question is that I am filling out a form that has the _ character and I wanted to use the strikeover characters to keep the underline character there as well as the character I am filling in. I used to do this in WP. Anyway, I just fixed the form so that I replaced the _ characters with spaces and then underlined them. Now I can use the typeover mode and still have the underline in place and the form field will remain about the same size. I have a couple of beefs with Word, and this might be one. The other is that in WP you used to be able to tell it to go to an exact coordinate on a page and type there. If that can be done in Word, I haven't found it. It would also be really nice to be able to reveal all the codes. Anyway, that's my rant! Thanks for the help. In Word you can indicate a number of international characters in two steps; first you indicate the accent and then you indicate the character. To get an N with a tilda over it, you press Control + tilde (on a UK keyboard, that's Control + Shift + #), then press n. Note that nothing seems to happen when you press the keys that denote the accent, and you have to press the character within about 5 seconds of indicating the accent. JAWS also has a way of inserting accented characters; press Insert + 4 to get a list. You can use this in any edit area, not just Word. When I was working a very long time ago (grin) I used Wordperfect. There was a way to type two characters on top of each other. I think it was called "strikeover". Does anyone know how to do this in MS Word? I have searched the help screens and find no answer. I am of the opinion that the help area in 2003 is worse instead of better than previous versions. I need to type an "n" with a tilda over it. This trick can come in handy every once in a while. Thank you.
