[jaws-uk] Re: adobe reader 7 updates from 7.0 to 7.3

Hi Phil,
No, it just doesn't load. If you try to load it from the programs menu, you
just end up sitting on the start button. If you open your file's context
menu and cursor to 'Open', you find that Adobe 7.0 is suggested as the thing
to open the file with, but then, if you hit enter, the menu closes and you
just sit there indefinitely. There must be some sort of conflict between
our Jaws and XP settings and something in Adobe 7.0, but finding it is
beyond me.

Cheers

Colin

Hi folks,

I have to admit that I am at a bit of a loss to explain the problems
experienced by Colin and Alexander.

The only thing I can suggest, is that there is a considerable delay at
Acrobat reader start up while the program checks the internet for updates
and that, in the event of updates being downloaded by the user, there will
be a further considerable delay while the updates are downloaded and
installed.

The only suggestion I can make, is that you try launching Acrobat reader
from the desktop without opening a PDF document and see if it works then.
If you do get the program loaded, you should be able to click on "detect and
repair" on the help menu.

Sorry and regards,

Phil Medway.

Good luck. I still can't get it working. It must be a Jaws problem because
my wife doesn't have the same trouble. I also find that my PC crashes when
I try to read things on the Adobe site. The ultimate irritation is being
advised to look in the help menu of the program you can't open. When I
eventually sent an error report to Microsoft, I was advised that the fault
was with Adobe and that there was no fix. It seems clear, however, that
some people are using the program quite happily. Where's the catch?

Colin

Cheers

Hi list,

Having read the threads on Adobe 7 I have downloaded the accessible version
of adobe 7.0 and tried to update it, although when I try to update it, it
seems as if the updater either freezes or hangs.

I realise that I am on a dialup connection but even though that is the case
I have no way of knowing whether the updating I have initiated is in
progress or not.

Other than through the adobe program itself, does anyone know where I can
download the updates please.

Please note that I am running Jaws 6.20 and Windows XP home on a laptop and
also that I have already put this question to Tristram at Sight and Sound.
