they only deal with pdf files with a text layer so if you want to scan an image
you will need an OCR package capable of recognising the PDF file.
Clarosoft Claroread Plus can do this but a more useful solution could be
Omnipage Standard I think. the Pro version costs a few hundred pounds where
the cheaper version costs around £70. Abby Finereader costs a similar amount.
Finereader and Omnipage can both scan documents and automatically put the
result in a word document. They can scan paper documents or images.
It's slower than a dedicated product such as Kurzweil 1000 or Open Book as each
page is recognised then converted into word format but stil very much worth
considering.

I haven't tried the first one, but I use webbie. Amongst other items there is
an accessible PDF reader and it is much easier to use the BBC radio and TV
players

I know this has been covered before, but can't remember if there was a
solution. I'm trying to read a PDF document but all I get is the message
"Alert, empty page". Printing this file out and scanning it isn't an option as
it is 130 pages long and I have several others to read. So how can I read the
text?
I'm using Windows XP and JAWS 11.
