Barbara,
Yes this is definitely a PDF image file rather than text.
If you have OpenBook or K1000, or a simlar product you can scan the PDF file.
Assuming you have a sufficiently updated version this works a treat normally.
If you don't have these programmes, you can usually get acceptable results by
printing thePDF file to a TIF file then scanning that via MS Office's Image
\scan application if you have that in your version of office.

I am using 9 as well, the latest version I think? I know what you are talking
about and that was all done at set up. I think it's what John said, a document
scanned as an image so JAWS won't recognise the text.

Hi what version of adobi reader are you using? I downloaded v9 and ran the
settup. When the installation was complete i then ran the programme which gave
me a licence agreement after that there are a few options you can choose, one
of which is use settings for screenreader, this was chosen then tab and select
next or alter options if you desire. Forgive me if this is not what you are
asking but it is then screenreader usable.

I got this the other day when reading a claim form from Globespan.....
say no more.... it was actually done as a graphic pdf. If you go to the file
menu when you have opened up the pdf you'll find an option to save as a text
file.
Not ideal but then you can either scan it or jaws should read it in
notepad.

I know this has been covered before, but can't remember if there was a
solution. I'm trying to read a PDF document but all I get is the message
"Alert, empty page". Printing this file out and scanning it isn't an option as
it is 130 pages long and I have several others to read. So how can I read the
text?
I'm using Windows XP and JAWS 11.
