heard that one doesnt need to recompile whole kernel since linux kernel v2.6.
You can probably compile it as a module or use a recent -mm tree which
comes with reiser4 support. You would also need the corresponding
userland tools to create and mange the file system. When I last looked
at it GRUB didn't have reiser4 support. You would be safe if your boot
partition is not formatted as reiser4.
