Main difference is, that we don't have any net_server add-ons anymore 
because we won't have a net_server anymore.
We have networking in the kernel (like BONE), so we've had add-ons/
kernel/net, not add-ons/net :-)

I think I can follow now, but then your preferred directory for the 
ich97 driver is wrong, it is an actual hardware driver and you want(ed) 
to place it in the add-ons/kernel directory.
But then, the only non-real hardware drivers are file systems - is that 
intended?
