Meaning stopping at the "-" of "sub-word"? Not sure the distiction is
that useful. I'd be OK with always doing sub-word jumping. That's a
detail I could easily adjust to.

I meant so that you could continue to use Ctrl for word navigation, while other people can use Alt -- and have both behave slightly differently so that you have added value.

As John pointed out, in Pe this is done via Opt right now, which I would find okay as well, even though it's probably not a good compromise anymore :-)

I still stick with my above statement. If people want to switch the
command key from ALT to CTRL to ease going back and forth between Haiku
and their other OS, it might not be that terribly inconvenient to
cursor-navigate using ALT.

It could be acceptable, but unfortunately, the Command-left/right shortcut is often harmful, like in a web browser where your leave the current page, often losing the text you just typed. And that is just too annoying.

If the text control's shortcuts only work when it has focus, I don't see a big issue, though. It already overrides Command-C/V/X for clipboard usage in that case, which is the exact same thing.

IOW the command key never consistently issues commands to the app only.

Bye,
