If I remember correctly, the cloth can be etched, but not cut, as long as
it hasn't been hit with resin or bondo yet. Do not cut polyester based
resins with lasers.
Carbon fiber cloth can be cut, again pre resin.
If they are laser cutting the cloth, they might be doing it with a fiber
laser rather than our type. Those allow for direct metal cutting as well.
It still might be do able on ours, but everything I'm seeing is saying etch
only. (Though if you etch it enough..isn't that a cut?)
Looking at the picture, it looks a bit different from Glass cloth. Glass
cloth would work, I've used it for shields while welding. But it almost
looks like scorching around the edge. It could be something else like k
wool. It's a ceramic cloth used in ovens and refractory furnaces.
What kind of Temps does it need to insulate from?

I am trying to make a thermal insulator for a Diamond Hotend for a 3D

Ebay special recommended by JetGuy. It does not come with this thermal
barrier as shown from the real version from Reprap.me (

it states that the thermal barrier is created by laser cutting a fire
blanket which looks to be fiberglass. I have the dxf file from the diamond
reprap wiki.
Not sure if we have crossed this bridge before so I wanted to start a
discussion before proceeding. Thoughts?
