there is a widespread belief that "focus groups" for naming are
common. i can neither deny nor affirm this belief, but i can tell you
that for most well-known name i've been involved in adopting
(amazon.com), there was no focus group and no discussion of even
having a focus group. i suspect that this is far more common than most
people think.
