The problem with floating point time solutions is that they only appear
to be real numbers. In actuality, they are rounding just like the
intergers are. They are simply doing it in a way that is much harder to
predict intuitively. Using a sufficiently resolved integer quanta saves
tremendous headaches over using doubles. For one thing, you can
guarantee that every sample boundary has an integer that exactly
represents it. You cannot do this with floats.
