I know you said to wait, but then you asked a question :)
Of course you can change the tempo as often as the host allows. But the
plugin chooses a rate at which it wants the meter updated, and can only
interpret tempo changes quantized to that rate. So the host will do the
integration necessary to determine the time of the next beat, and give
that duration to the plugin. As far as the plugin sees, the tempo is
constant across that interval.
