Sorry, must have missed this - consistency? If the plugins ship iwth
invalid external metadata then that is a bug, plain and simple.

I came to the realisation that the plugin cant really offer anything over
and obove static metadata if you probe it, so theres probably no point in
providing a requirement for it.

The cases I can think of where the metadata is not constant it varies
depending on the values of other controls and so on, so probing doesnt
help either.

Simply allowing the static metadata to descibe ranges of possible values
will be as useful.
