Thanks. I missed the bit about a gateway being involved.

There is a Product Enhancement Request form that can be used in a
situation like this, i.e., where the product functions as designed, but
the design is limited relative to market need.

Here's the link:

http://support.ips.invensys.com/per2006/persystem.asp

You do have to be registered with the Global Client Support site.

This gets the need to the folks in marketing who can change the product.

Morning Alex
Well its morning for me

Assume you have multiple RS485 devices on a network
Using a IP/Serial gateway eg schnieder TSXEGT100 a 232/233 will
communicate with one device via the gateways IPaddress and the devices
device address
At the point you try to configure a second communication the
configurator (ICC) will state you cannot reuse the same IPaddress, there
is an un-doccumented Ipaddress/device address notation that gets around
the Ipaddress syntax check but it creates some very strange
communication packets.
We even tried octal Ipaddresses which seemed to work but at the point we
tried dotless decimal the FCP went single and we ran away

This problem has been through the CAR process and the product is
designed not to work in this situation "this CAR is now closed"

The FBM224 works well in multidrop
I cannot vouch for the 230/231 FDSI but if it did work the core code
must be there for the 232/233 FDSI

Shaun

Shaun, would you elaborate on this? I don't understand what you are
saying.

The Ethernet version of FDSI FBM supports up to 64 devices on an
Ethernet network; your mileage may vary based on protocol. Each device
does require its own IP address which is the norm on an IP network.

Hi Virgil
FBM 232/233 (ethernet) are designed not to work in multidrop situations
Even though they use IP address and device address in their
configuration they insist on only one device per IP address.

In my situation I wanted to talk RS485 to Durag flame controllers and
had to install an IP/Serial gateway per Durag Shaun
