I'm going to take a shot, but I am not our Allen-Bradley guru, so take it with a grain of salt. If anyone else disagrees, please reply. I think you must use the serial FBM230 for the PLC-5/40E with DH+. You can also make the newer ControlLogix PLCs emulate PLC5 back to an FBM230, but I don't think you can go the way you want to with Ethernet to a PLC5. You might be able to use an Allen-Bradley bridge (again, I'm not an AB guru), but I don't see the gain as the FBM230 connection is more solid than the FBM232 (or the AB PLC Comm modules) in my experience. I would like to know if I can interface the FBM232 to an A-B PLC-5/40E using the Ethernet/IP driver. The PSS says it can interface ControlLogix controllers, but it does not say whether it supports the PLC-5 Ethernet series or not.
