What we´ve implemented was an access database were we do all the
razionalization process. Then, daily, we export the informacion needed by
operators to html files with the C:B name. when panel oparators push a botton
on foxview (not CAD), we get the C:B name to select the file to show on
iexplorer (or netscape on solaris).
Alarmas are prioriotized 1-4 and 5 is for messages and alarm shelving. Priority
5 is hidden through a filter botton on CAD.

Thats's indeed what we're looking for....Our operators have plenty to do,
getting to the info they need about an alarm (what is it, which action is he
supposed to take) should be easy and straightforward. Everything else (the
actual alarm management) is for process engineering.
Looking for something simple, easy to view but also easy to maintain (by
engineering)
Something like a database on a server, selecting the C:B: from the CAD and
hitting a button should open a viewer on that screen, showing the action to be
taken.
Already got some interesting idea's from the list, (as usual) thanks everyone!

OK, I'm probably beating a dead horse here, but I guess my point was that
calling up a browser and several clicks and some time later to get the data is
too much to ask of an operator when the plant is falling down around his knees.
You want it where said harried operator clicks a button on the CAD and, to
paraphrase Emeril Lagasse, BAM! and the information he needs is there.
No part of PSS is capable of meeting that kind of performance and ease of use
requirement in my experience. You need a lean, mean, external viewer.
It can get data from PSS on a regular download basis, though.

If you talk to our North American Alarm Management Team then there are
ways that the data can be pulled out of the D&R component on demand.
Granted it is easier on MS Windows platform where you can use the built in
web browser to present that data. I have been told that it should also be
possible to do the same using browsers that are available for the Solaris
boxes. My personal experience is on the I/A Series MS Windows platform.

For those with an Alarm Management Tool already in place, then it maybe
possible that parts of the PlantState Suite (PSS) Advanced Alarm Elements
module can be licensed on a stand-a-lone basis.

My experience with PSS' D&R tool leads me to conclude that something along
these lines would not quite have the immediacy needed for process
operations. At the least you would have to dump that info out of PSS and
put it into some sort of viewer that could access it quickly and easily
for the operators. And if you are not on Windows, and don't want to
install rdesktop or something similar on your Sun boxes, that's your only
option.

If you were using the Invensys preferred Alarm Management Tool (PlantState
Suite) then the information from the alarm review process could be
captured directly in to the Documentation & Rationalisation (D&R)
component of the Advanced Alarm Elements module. It is then pretty
straight forward to present this information to the user using picks on
the Current Alarm Display (CAD). Some users consider the D&R component to
be Master Alarm Database for the asset.
For further information contact your regional Alarm Management Subject
Matter Expert, your Account Manager (Client Sales Executive) should have
the relevant details
