To all those who are on Duxuser:

Yes, a Tutorial is a good thing. I just discovered that there is a good Tutorial about Duxbury DBT at:
http://www.e-bility.com/roundtable/guidelines-duxbury-braille-translator.php

This is in a variety of formats, including Word and pdf files.

This manual is called :
Duxbury Braille Translator Producer's Manual (2011)
It is written for braille transcribers in Australia and New Zealand.
Australia uses UEB, New Zealand uses BANA rules, just like North American Braille. So as you read it, focus on the rules for New Zealand, and fade the rules for Australia.

I would like to work on a document that lists the things that needs to be changed for an American audience. If you do download this and read through it, e-mail me privately at david@xxxxxxxxxx

This Tutorial is being issued on with a license allowing free distribution, but not allowing derivitive works. So it may be best to distribute it as is, and add an additional set of notes to help persons who are not
in Australia or New Zealand make the best of it.

---------------------------------------------------

We should also note that today, BANA (Braille Authority of North America) is releasing its latest work
http://www.brailleauthority.org/formats/formats2011.html
Braille Formats, Principles of Print-to-Braille Transcription, 2011

This work calls for sweeping changes in braille formats: Contents, Indexes, Outlines, Exercises, Glossary.
Line numbered Poetry, Preliminary Pages, and so much more.

As with most new changes in the rules, there is a long lead time for a transition to the new rules. Thus braille transcribers are not expected to switch immediately, and software makers have a bit of breathing space
to issue new versions.
