Phil replied: if you record at a higher bit rate then, you will get a lot more head room. Also instruments such as bass guitar, drums etc, have more depth to them, even after you come down from 24 bit, to 16. Working at higher sample rates, could be worth doing if we all were not mastering for Cd. I don't personally think it's worth doing as you need a lot more band with and CPU power to work at say, 96 or, 192. I didn't mean to imply that Caketalking affected sampling rates in anyway. Unfortunately, I no longer have the message from Gord on the subject but he said something similar to Phil. For those who feel that way, why in your opinion does bit rate matter more than high sampling rates? For that matter, the over-the-top sampling rate of 192 has become a possibility for some of us. Why stick with 44100? Personally, I would stick with 24 bit 44.1. but hay, that's just me. Gordon Kent said at the time that high sampling rates had never truly been tested with Cake Talking but this may have changed recently. I'm pretty sure that the only way you can get your soft synths to record at 96K is to start a blank project with that setting. The reason you're getting the unsupported error is because your original project may be recorded at a different sample rate, say, 48 or 44.1. In a pinch, you could copy your MIDI tracks and paste them into a new project at the desired sample rate if you don't wat to reperform your parts. In addition, there are some cards that only record at certain sample rates. It's possible at the Edirol you have will only go up to 48K. You'll have to check your documentation or visit the web for more information on this. However, when I open a sonar project, it won't play it and i get an error message that says something like, "the current audio format is not supported by the soundcard," or something like that. I know the rate is switched to 96 in sonar's audio options. The only audio in this project is softsynths. My only guess is that the softsynths don't support 96khz sampling rate. Is that correct? If that's the case: is there a way to record/convert those instruments so that they will play at 96khz? Thanks. OMAR BINNO AIM: LOD1116 SKYPE: obinno1 WEBSITE: www.omarbinno.com
