It sounds as though you've hit the fundamental difference batween DTP
and word processing.
Indeed, and it's known I don't particularly like, Just word processors...
My comments about them usually include mildly rude words...
However, I had a couple of things to consider in my playtime.
1) Libre Office is what I'd consider to be more than a mere WP, something
like half way between a WP and a Serif Page Plus.
2) I have to have a way to output the end result in some Word/Doc/DocX
file for the others to use which is why I went for LO which can do so,
rather than Serif PP which I also have, but cannot get any useful files
out of.

It’s a long time since I’ve used the RiscOS version of OvPro, but there may be
a relatively straightforward solution to your problem. Presumably, you can
export/print OvPro documents to PDF. Windows versions of MSWORD (Word 2013
onwards) will open PDF files and convert to doc/docx format on the fly. I have
tried this with a complex OPW document (2-column layout with images) and it
works a treat. Happy to send you the OPW and WORD versions of the document, if
you’re interested.
