One of the problems I have found using LibreOffice under linux is that
copy/paste often seems to transfer some style/format information from the
host
document that is both extremely difficult to get rid of and messes up general
formatting to the extent that I now do an intermediate copy/paste to and from
a basic text editor.

Select all the text (ctrl-A on Linux), right-click and click on "Clear direct
formatting" should do the trick—it does for me.
I've had the same problems as one of the other posters had with documents which
include text boxes, frames and the like. The latest version of LibreOffice
(5.1) doesn't seem to have as many issues. If you have Ubuntu or a descendant
you should be able to use the LibreOffice PPA ("personal package archive") to
install the latest version.
