I would like to change the email address for my subscription to this list. How do I do that ?

This has been great hearing from all sorts of folks, many
who I recognize from their work or have crossed paths with
previously.

I'm a lurker, mostly because, like Helene, I've transitioned
from the dance and media community almost entirely into the
visual arts. Based in Vancouver now, rather than New York,
and also not in academia, I seem to be interacting with a
different crowd. (Henry - I'll be presenting work at ISEA
this summer too, we must get together...)

I also agree with Dawn in that there is a lot to sort
through, but this thread has suddenly become a lot more
interesting to me as the anonymity drops away and I
recognize people, practices, as well as work that I'm
interested in or people that I would like to meet,
electronically or not. It might become a more active space
if you ask people to re-sign up and then keep their names as
part of the conversation, rather than the 'dance-tech
freelists' element. I've been a bit nervous to share work on
this before, but now feel there may be more room. Perhaps if
you let us know how you would like us to use it - is it
merely for discussing the topics suggested? Does one post
work or shows that one is involved with? Some ground rules
might help everyone participate more.

Lastly, I also miss the 'dance film festival's that were
really fun in the 90s and early 2000s. All the IMZ festivals
(Monaco, Brighton, Lyon, etc.) as well Toronto, New York,
LA, etc. (I know some of them are still happening, but
still.) The DTW residency with Mark Coniglio spreading the
knowledge. ISEA this summer should be fun too, Vancouver's
pretty great in the summer, would like to meet anyone who's
coming out this way.

WIth best regards,
Evann Siebens

Hello all,

I'm a lurker, mostly because I am less involved in media
and dance these days, since leaving EMPAC, and am heading
more into puppetry and sound work... but I like to see
what is going on and to keep one toe in the door. I do
wish there were gatherings - Monaco Dance Forum is missed
- Nottingham in 2005 (?) was great. I wish someone would
be able to bring us all together in that way, because I
think ideas need face to face time and the unplanned,
non-academic, spontaneous conversations and interactions
that result when you gather a group of like minded people
together. Not to mention the fun that is had when
(ex)dancers from all over the world get together and
discover the local evening dance options. :)

Best to all,
Helene

I feel the same way unfortunately,

I'm based in the Performing Arts Department of Istanbul

even though I don't write much.

It is great to hear about the NYU program because I was
a student of BFA Dance and MPS Interactive
Telecommunications Program there and after I graduated I
tried hard to open joined classes. It is great to see
that finally it is happening.

all the best,

    Me too!?!

That said, we are all too aware of the lack of places
to gather, share, play, and think.

I'm very much hoping that the Dance and New Media
degree I'm birthing here at NYU with Bill Moulton
and Paul Galando will lead us to hosting such a
gathering... Ironically, I think our chair Sean
Curran performed at the last IDAT....

I feel like 'the conversation' has shifted almost
entirely to the realms of our european friends
(witness Johannes, Marlon, Scott, Mark and other's
now making homes for their work on the other side of
    the pond.)

Anyway - this is more of a personal dream then a
promise at this point but it feels we need a space
to gather over here as well... and an NYC based
    dialog could be quite fun/interesting...

In the meantime, I'll echo the sense of overwhelm in
trying to start something, make work, and negotiate
the realities of life at the same time...

I appreciate the call to link the worlds of making
and theoretical that what ever conversation we are
having is as widely relevant as possible...

as well as the appreciation for seeing old friends
    here...

    all best
    Jamie

        Johannes,

I am with Dawn on this one. Life has

we have all been at this. I may not find much
time to contribute any more, but I still like to
lurk and keep up with the old gang, and the new.

discussions and now there seems to be many. I
too listen and read but rarely (never)
contribute. I seem to barely have enough time to
act in my own life let alone respond to the
abundance of information that passes over my
computer screen. It’s a weird thing because I
really like to know what is happening out there
but I find myself scanning more than really
absorbing the words/thoughts/ideas. I very much
miss our regular gatherings, which are probably
still happening without me, but my life is
different now. If there was a place for me to
check in, I would still. Maybe a bulletin board
would be a good way for those who can contribute
do, and those who want to check in can.

But it’s a reality that I barely have the time
to create/conceive and no time to reflect and
report on my findings. Maybe a bigger topic of
discussion is - how in the hell do we keep up
        with all the discussion?
