Hello Ladies. Today is a glorious sunny day here in the low foothills.
Weather is supposed to be nice through the weekend and on into Monday. Maybe
rain late on Monday, so I'm planning a hike.
12/20 at Melones Glory Hole Recreation area. We will do The Frontier Trail
which map says is 2.2 miles to the end. We will go up and back same way, but
not all the way to the end of the trail which will make us going maybe 3 miles.
Trail starts across the road from the Carson Creek trail head, goes parallel to
the road towards the Angels Creek boat ramp. It's fairly level, just minor ups
and downs. There is an old day use area near the boat ramp parking area (years
ago when there was water in the lake it was a swim beach area) and we will pick
a table in the sun and have a snack, then head back same way we went out.
Directions: Glory Hole Recreation area is on the Calaveras County side of the
bridge on Hwy. 49. Enter the Glory Hole recreation area drive past the first
trail head parking, down the hill to the 2nd trail head parking which will be
on your left (Carson Creek trail head). We will meet there at 10:00.
Bring trekking poles if you are used to them. The trail is on the sunny side
of a hill, but there might be damp or slick spots in the shade or at culverts.
Boots would be better than tennis shoes. Bring a snack to eat at the picnic
area. Bring your senior pass to get in free, be sure to leave the pass on your
dash so it's visible to the rangers.
Dogs: They are fine, off leash is ok once we get on the trial. BUT, be aware
we will be paralleling the road, above the road but not very far from it...you
can see it all the way. I used to do this hike with Kat and Liz and they were
always more interested in the uphill area away from the road, that's were all
the good smells are. But, depends on your dog and how you feel about it.
Please reply to me (not the entire group) if you are coming, that way I will be
sure to wait for you. by email field722@xxxxxxxxxxx
