If memory serves me correctly, the 7.02 update upgraded the FineReader
engine to 7.0, so there should be at least some improvement.

Not noticeably, it's the same version with just a minor software update. You can try a few things to improve your scans though. Try turning off the despeckle option in scanner settings, and turn off the white text on black background unless you're scanning a book cover or some types of magazines. You may also need to adjust the contrast setting on a book by book basis to find a setting that works best for you. The despeckle option is for use on photocopies, and it can mess up recognition on books. You will avoid extra line breaks at the end of lines by keeping column detection turned on. Unless you're scanning something with tiny print, it's best to keep your resolution at 300 DPI. I personally find that turning off the language analyst improves my scan quality, but I don't know if that's something that would apply to other people. I have my recognition engine set to FineReader, and the languages I'm using are both set to English. I hope this helps you. Please ask if anything I've said isn't clear.
