Not to mention failing to use the ribbon to pull them out easily. I've seen
people using everything from ice picks to stainless steel tableware to
literally pry batteries out of devices like the BP, frequently by jamming
the tool between the battery and the terminal.

While I do not have a definitive answer to this problem, I have seen
instances where some persons attempt to change batteries by literally
jamming the batteries in place rather than by first putting the spring end
and subsequently inserting the positive end. No wonder some contacts don't
hold up.
